Microsoft has recently released a new update for its Office productivity suite as part of the Office Insider program aimed at iOS users, including several new features that should go live for everyone in the coming months.
Currently at version 2.4 (17080700) the new Office Insider version for iPhone and iPad introduces a security feature that automatically blocks malicious links in documents, workbooks, and presentations, This feature is available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on all supported iOS devices.
Additionally, Microsoft Word is getting two exclusive improvements, one of which is a new option that enables custom margins. The second is a tweak for smart quotes, which are now displayed after em dashes as well.
This is a feature that was also released to Android devices earlier this month as part of the latest Office Insider update. Windows 10 Mobile users also received the same feature back in July.
Outlook app improvements for insiders
Microsoft Outlook is also getting its own batch of improvements, including a redesigned conversation experience with more text displayed in the same screen and clearer separation between individual messages.
Additionally, Outlook features a new sidebar to quickly switch between accounts and folders, a feature that’s been announced for Outlook users on other platforms recently as well.
And last but not least, all three apps are getting quick access to groups and sites straight from the Open menu in the frequently used sites and groups section. This feature requires an Office 365 subscription, just like the protection against malicious links in documents.
Keep in mind that all these improvements are only part of the Insider program, but if the feedback is good, then they should be released to production devices very soon.
As for insiders, make sure that you send feedback to the company after trying out these features, as this is the purpose of the Office Insider program in the first place.
