2017 appears to be the year of smartphones with no bezels, and after several manufacturers embraced this approach, and with Apple to do it as well in less than 30 days, here’s another company launching a phone with edge-to-edge display but at a shocking price.
Micromax has just announced the so-called Canvas Infinity in India, a phone that comes with an 18:9 display and featuring an approach that Apple itself is likely to embrace with the iPhone 8.
While many have called the Micromax Canvas Infinity an iPhone 8 killer, this phone is a wannabe rival at the very most, as it comes with specs that put it far behind today’s flagships. Not to mention the price, which clearly suggests it’s just a budget device.
Micromax Canvas Infinity specs
First and foremost, the device comes with a 5.7-inch display with 18:9 aspect ration and 1440×720 pixel resolution. It features 450 nits brightness, which is somewhat acceptable for a device in the budget category.
Power comes from a quad-core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 3GB RAM, while the GPU is the budget Adreno 308 chip. In terms of storage, the device comes with 32GB, but microSD card support is also offered for an extra 128GB storage.
The main camera is a 13-megapixel with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, while the front-facing unit is a 16-megapixel camera with the same aperture and 81.5-degree FOV for selfies.
The phone features a 2,900 mAh battery and runs on Android Nougat, with the parent company claiming it will be fully upgradeable to Oreo later this year.
All in all, the Micromax is one of the most affordable phones coming with no bezels, but as compared to the iPhone 8, it does feature a fingerprint sensor placed on the back, just below the camera and the flash, in typical Android fashion.
The device will go on sale in September in India, with available for other markets to be announced at a later time.
